ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan has formed 102 district voter education committees (DVECs) to motivate local committees to participate in the electoral process.

The commission started training DVEC members, such as district election commissioners (DECs) and elections officers to increase voter participation in the 2018 general elections. These DECs will in turn train other members in the committee. Its members include the District Election Commissioner (Chairman) as well as representative of the DC/DCO office, community development or social welfare department, local government department and others.

The training is expected to be completed by October 20, 2016 and DVEC will be responsible for planning and carrying out voter education activities.  They will also coordinate with district administration, local media, educational institutes, civil society organisations and political parties for effective execution of elections.
