Haleema murder case: SHC reserves order on suspect’s bail plea

Sonia Rizwan approached high court after trial court rejected her application

KARACHI: The Sindh High Court (SHC) reserved on Wednesday its verdict on the bail application filed by suspect Sonia Rizwan, who was nominated in the Haleema murder case along with her husband.

The bench reserved its order after hearing arguments from the applicant's lawyer, the investigation officer and prosecutor. Sonia had approached the SHC after the trial court rejected her bail application.

The couple, Sonia and Rizwan, was held for the murder of Haleema, who was found dead in a flat in Delhi Colony on July 31. The applicant's lawyer argued that she was cleared in the police investigations, and said that the South additional district and sessions judge still rejected her bail application.

The lawyer claimed that the trial court had erred in passing its order, as the applicant had no role in the commission of the alleged offence. The lawyer also cited a report filed by the investigators recommending release of Sonia for want of evidence. The court was informed that the suspect has a daughter and in her absence she was suffering mentally.

The prosecutor opposed the bail plea, arguing that there was strong evidence available to connect her role with the commission of the offence.

Therefore, the court was pleaded to dismiss the bail plea. After hearing arguments, the bench reserved its order to be announced later.
