A helping hand: Uncultivated land to be allotted to farmers, says CDA chief

LAHORE: At least 236,000 acres of uncultivated land will be allotted to 13,400 landless farmers who are permanent residents of Cholistan.

This was said by Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) Chairperson Malik Muhammad Iqbal Channar. He expressed these views while chairing a meeting on Monday. He added paperwork has been completed and allotment letters have been prepared, “They will be handed over to them at a ceremony,” Channar said.

Bahawalpur Division Commissioner Saqib Zafar, Irrigation Parliamentary Secretary Khalid Mahmood and other officials were also present on the occasion.

He said poor farmers of Cholistan, who have less than 16 acres of cultivatable land, will be provided 12.5 acre land.

“The information about the farmers, who will be given land, has been verified through National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the Election Commission of Pakistan and district administrations,” he added. Channar said the farmers of Bahawalpur district would get 187,000 acres in the first phase, while 88,400 acres of land would be allotted to farmers of Bahawalnagar district. At least 3,800 acres have been provided to farmers of Rahim Yar Khan.
