Infected in Multan: Suspected Congo virus patient admitted

MULTAN: A suspected Congo virus carrier has been admitted at Nishtar Hospital in Multan on Monday.

A spokesperson at the facility told The Express Tribune, the patient has been identified as 43-year old Khalid Mahmood, a resident of Yousuf Colony.

He has been admitted in Ward Number 27 of the hospital.

He added that the blood samples of the patient were sent to National Institute of Health (NIH) in Islamabad.

According to the spokesperson, the patient has a limited number of platelets in his body.

He said the patient was suffering from high-fever over the last eight days. The spokesperson said the virus might have caused by constant contact with sacrificial animals during Eidul Azha.

At least two patients of Congo virus have already admitted in Nishtar Hospital. One of the patients has been identified as 29-year-old Abdul Rahman, a resident of Kohlu district in Balochistan.

He had been brought to Nishtar Hospital after he showed symptoms of Crimean-Congo hemorrhagic fever on Sunday. His blood samples were sent to Islamabad.

However, the patient died before the result of the report could be received.

Naseem Bibi, 35, another patient who was admitted at the facility, is a resident of Bahawalpur. Three of her relatives were also admitted at the hospital and the blood samples of her brother Kaleemullah, her son Shahbaz and her husband Shahzad have been sent to NIH Islamabad.
