Law enforcers apprehend 41 suspects

30 of them arrested during a two-hour raid in PIB Colony

KARACHI: As many as 41 suspects were arrested in overnight targeted raids carried out by law enforcement agencies in different parts of the city on Sunday.

A large contingent of police conducted an overnight targeted raid in Old Sabzi Mandi area in PIB Colony. The entire locality was cordoned off during the operation that lasted for at least two hours. During the operation, the police carried out a door-to-door search against criminals, particularly those involved in the business of drugs in the area, said PIB DSP Nasir Lodhi, adding that the police were able to apprehend nearly 30 suspects, who were shifted to different police stations. The police also claimed to have recovered weapons, a huge quantity of narcotics and at least 14 snatched motorcycles. Cases have been registered against them while further investigations are underway.



Separately, the police detained at least six suspects during a raid conducted at Khat Basti in Upper Gizri, Clifton. The raid was conducted on a tip-off and the police recovered a bag containing arms and ammunitions from a vacant plot in the basti, said the law enforcers. The recovered weapons included a Kalashnikov, repeater and ammunitions. The suspects were shifted to the Clifton police station for further investigations.

Meanwhile, the Mehmoodabad police claimed to have apprehended two suspects during a search operation in Chanesar Goth and Kashmir Colony. The arrested men were identified as Noman alias Shooter and Usman alias Asshu.

"The suspects were involved in more than 50 cases of street crime while weapons and looted mobile phones were also recovered from their possession," said Mehmoodabad SHO Sarwar Commando, adding that Noman was also declared an absconder by an anti-terrorism court.

In another raid, two more suspects were apprehended by the Taimuria police. The law enforcers claimed to have recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession.

Separately, the police arrested an alleged criminal from Gulbahar and recovered two snatched motorcycles. Cases against them have been registered while further investigations are under way.
