The missing headphone jack in Apple's recently released iPhone 7 is not just unattractive or inconvenient but it may also cause a major durability issue.

Apple's new iPhone unsurprisingly demonstrates superb built quality, however, the lighting jack which is now being shared by two accessories probably has the same lifespan. This could prove to be a major problem as the port now has to be used to charge the phone and connect headphones.

iPhone launch generates crowds, queues worldwide

What this means then is that the lighting jack will now have half the lifespan that it had before since the phone's port experiences wear and tear over use and though it is designed to withstand thousands of insertions it will now suffer twice as much than before.

Apple has upped its game with the release of its new smartphone and the phone has a far superior built quality compared to the iPhone 6 and the Bendgate debacle. The screen and home button which now solely operate on touch can withstand majority of scratches that we’d expect with day to day use.

Apple says initial quantities of iPhone 7 Plus sold out

The phone can also withstand direct contact with a flame for up to ten seconds before its pixels will turn off, and it will recover quickly if they do.

Whether Apple has taken the increased use of the lightening jack into consideration or not we will find out with time. For those who have had their phones charging port fail can sit this one out or should buy the $159 AirPods along with iPhone 7 to reduce wear and tear on the charging port.
