BIEK announces science and pre-engineering results

Majority of female students bag top positions

KARACHI: The hard work of the students who appeared for their science general and pre-engineering Intermediate examinations paid off as their results were announced on Sunday.

Board of Intermediate Education, Karachi, (BIEK) controller Imran Khan Chishti, along with chairperson Akhtar Ghori and chief guest Sindh ombudsman Asad Ashraf Malik, announced the results of the annual examinations held this year.

The results were announced a month late after the Anti-Corruption Establishment raided the BIEK offices over complaints of tampering with marks and changing in results. According to the syndicate’s decision, the deadline for the results was September 15 while the board has still managed to announce the result before the deadline. Chishti said that there should be a standard policy to start classes in public and private colleges.

Pre-engineering group

Like the results of any faculty, female students managed to bag the top two positions in pre-engineering while the third position was claimed by a male student from a government college. The first and second positions were secured by the students of Aga Khan Higher Secondary School.  Anum Amad Siddiqui, who dreams to be an electrical engineer from National University of Sciences and Technology, secured the first position with 90.73% and 998 marks out of 1100. Ayesha Muzaffar secured the second position with 90.64% and getting 997 marks.



Adamjee Government Science College’s Abdul Saboor was the only male student who managed to secure a top position in this year’s Intermediate examinations. Saboor secured the third position with 90.18% with 992 marks.

According to the results announced by the examinations controller, 31,059 candidates registered for the Intermediate part II pre-engineering exams, with 23,213 males and 7,846 females. The pass percentage of Intermediate pre-engineering is 49.35%, which was 45.42% last year.  A total of 1,173 students managed to get the A-1 grade, while 2,742 candidates secured the A grade. The B grade was secured by 12.34% students while 14% students got C grade in their examinations.

Science general group

In science general group, all three positions were bagged by the female students. Sidra Khalid of DA Degree College for Women secured the first position with 84.36% marks. Her classmate, Fiza Danish, made it to the second slot with 83.82% marks. Their third class fellow, Syeda Rubab Zehra, managed to bag the third position in the annual examinations with 83.73% marks. According to the controller of examinations, a total 2,658 candidates were registered in the science general group while 2,627 appeared in the examination conducted in May 2016. The pass percentage for the candidate is 46.21%, which was 43.87% in 2015.

In the annual examination for science general group, only 17 students managed to get an A-1 grade or score more than 80% marks while the percentage of students securing A grade increased to 6.93% from 5.47% of last year. As many as 380 students cleared their exams with B grade while 429 candidates received a D grade in their results.
