In a first : KMU produces its maiden PhD scholar

Dr Amina Gul of Basic Medical Sciences successfully defended her thesis

PESHAWAR: Khyber Medical University (KMU) Peshawar PhD Scholar Dr Amina Gul of Basic Medical Sciences successfully defended her thesis and thus qualified for a doctorate in microbiology. She was the first to do so in the history of her varsity. Gul conducted her research on the molecular characterisation of the Hepatitis C virus Genotype 3a and its correlation with treatment response in patients visiting tertiary care hospitals of Peshawar. She completed the thesis under the supervision of IBMS Director Professor Dr Jawad Ahmad, while her co-supervisor was Dr Ijaz Ali of the COMSATS Biosciences Department in Islamabad. KMU Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr Muhammad Hafizullah, who was present at the occasion, congratulated Dr Amina Gul for being the first ever PhD of KMU.
