PESHAWAR: At least five armed men, wearing militia uniforms and masquerading as policemen on a search operation, entered a house in Hayatabad, Phase-I and decamped with goods worth hundreds of thousands of rupees on Wednesday morning.

Speaking to The Express Tribune, Anjum, a relative of the victim, said five men entered the house at around 10am and held the women hostage. They were blindfolded, while their hands were tied behind their backs.

He said one of them scaled the wall, entered the house and then opened the gate for others who took the inhabitants hostage.

“They collected all the valuables and later entered the upper portion which was rented out by the house owner,” he said. They took those inmates hostage and even took away a 55-inch LCD television, apart from gold jewellery and other items.The house owner added the police have been informed and they registered an FIR before starting an investigation.



“They were wearing militia uniform and said they were policemen who had covered their faces with masks,” he added.

Separately, Ghulam Gilani, the manager of a private company, was deprived of Rs2.7 million near State Bank in Saddar.

He lodged an FIR with the police, saying he was going in his car when a motorcycle hit the vehicle. The rider asked him to stop by the roadside. When he was arguing with the motorcyclist, bandits took away his money and fled in a sedan. East Cantt police registered an FIR and started an investigation.

Meanwhile, Haji Javed from Mathra was robbed at home. The bandits got away with Rs400,000 and 300 tolas of gold. The Mathra police failed to register an FIR in this case.
