A 21 gun-salute marked the beginning of Defence Day in the metropolis where several events were held to remember the martyrs and brave soldiers of the 1965 war with India.

Several Quran Khawanis were held for the martyred who laid down their lives for the defence of the country.


A change of guard ceremony was held at the Quaid’s mausoleum where cadets of the Pakistan Air Force Academy (PAF), Risalpur assumed the guard duty. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah visited a ceremony at the PAF Base Masroor. He said “September 6 was a memorable day as the brave armed forces of Pakistan frustrated the enemy’s attack.”

Meanwhile, Rangers DG Maj Gen Bilal Akbar laid a wreath at the ‘Muqam-e-Shuhada’ at the Sindh Rangers Headquarters and also visited the Quaid’s mausoleum earlier to offer prayers and lay a floral wreath. In Hyderabad, several events were held to mark the day, including an exhibition of weapons and equipment used by the army at the Garrison Sports Stadium. A similar exhibition was organised in Pano Aqil Garrison displaying Indian weapons seized in the war.
