Food poisoning: Over 200 cadet college students in Swabi fall sick

The students were shifted to Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) and other nearby health facilities

PESHAWAR: Over 200 students of the Col Sher Khan Cadet College, Swabi suffered food poisoning after having dinner at the college mess, officials said on Sunday.

The students were shifted to Mardan Medical Complex (MMC) and other nearby health facilities, Rescue 1122 officials told the media. Rescue 1122's District Emergency Officer Dr Haris Habib said they have set up a camp inside the College to provide immediate aid to the victims.

MMC Director Dr Tariq Mehmood told The Express Tribune over 100 students were brought to the facility of which 67 students were under treatment in the emergency unit while the rest were shifted to there wards concerned as their condition was stable. Food samples taken from the patents’ stomach were sent for laboratory tests, he added.

“We had biryani, chicken along with soft drinks for dinner when our condition deteriorated,” a student at the MMC, whose condition is stable now, told The Express Tribune.

In May this year over 120 students in Dargai district of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa fell unconscious during the school's morning assembly.

Reports suggested the students drank water from the school’s water tank, which was apparently toxic. While the school administration said the incident occurred due to the ongoing heat wave, report of the incident is yet to be unveiled.
