The price list issued by the Lahore Market Committee showed that prices of at least 16 vegetables went up at Sunday Bazaars this week compared to the last week. The prices of seven vegetables dropped and one remained unchanged this week.
The prices of pumpkins witnessed the highest increase of 221 per cent. They were sold for Rs45 per kilogramme. Special quality native lemons were available for Rs100 to Rs110 per kilogramme after a 47 per cent increase in their prices. Second grade native lemons were available for Rs65 to Rs70 per kilogramme.
Brinjals prices registered a 29 per cent increase. The vegetable was sold for Rs20 to Rs22 per kilogramme. The prices of onions went up by 22 per cent; they were available for Rs19 to Rs22 per kilogramme. Fenugreek prices witnessed a 20 per cent raise. The vegetable was sold for Rs108 to Rs114 per kilogramme. Bitter gourd and capsicum prices rose by 16 per cent; they were sold for Rs75 to Rs80 per kilogramme.
Cauliflower prices saw an increase of 17 per cent; it was sold for Rs65 to Rs70 per kilogramme. The prices of local green chillies rose by 12 per cent; they were available for Rs50 to Rs55 per kilogramme. Bottle gourd sold for Rs45 to Rs50 per kilogramme after an 11 per cent increase in its prices.
The prices of peas showed a raise of more than nine per cent; they were sold for Rs140 to Rs150 per kilogramme. Potato prices witnessed a five per cent raise as the vegetable was available for Rs40 to Rs42 per kilogramme. A sugar-free variety of potatoes was available for Rs26 to Rs28 per kilogramme. Cold stored potatoes were sold for Rs18 to Rs20 per kilogramme.
Chinese garlic was sold for Rs258 to Rs265 per kilogramme after a raise of four per cent in its prices. Local garlic was available for Rs225 to Rs230 per kilogramme. Turnip prices rose by three per cent; the vegetable was sold for Rs60 per kilogramme.
The price of cucumber went up by two per cent; the vegetable was sold for Rs50 to Rs55 per kilogramme. Okra sold for Rs60 to Rs70 per kilogramme after a little increase in their price.
Radishes were sold for Rs18 to Rs20 per kilogramme, showing a decline of 23 per cent in their prices. Cabbages showed a 22 per cent lowering in their price; they were available for Rs30 to Rs35 per kilogramme. Local carrots showed an 11 per cent fall in their prices; they were sold for Rs35 to Rs40 per kilogramme.
