ISLAMABAD: A committee consisting of officials of the twin cities’ civic agencies and district governments has been formed to take measures for curbing dengue and Congo viruses during upcoming Eidul Azha.

The committee will coordinate with all the relevant departments to ensure measures for eradication of the dengue larvae.

The committee will also take steps to manage waste disposal in the twin cities which are breeding ground for dengue larvae.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Minister of State for Capital Administration and Development Division (CADD) Tariq Fazal Chaudhry which was attended by Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz, officials of the district administrations of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, as well as the representatives of the Capital Development Authority (CDA).

The dengue patients who are brought to hospitals in Islamabad are mostly from the suburban areas and adjoining districts of Islamabad, the state minister said.

The meeting was informed that an out-door and an in-door preventive policy for dengue control was being pursued in the city.

Out-door monitoring teams visit the sites and destroy the larvae and their reproductive culture.

The World Health Organisation-approved chemicals are sprayed at the site to have “mine effect” as the mosquito dies instantly as soon as it lands on the sprayed area.

Three hundred lady health workers are working to destroy suspected in-door dengue breeding sites wherever such a site is reported.

Officers of the municipal corporation informed the meeting that pre-emptive measures had been taken to curb the spread of Congo virus in the makeshift markets of sacrificial animals.
