‘The Mechanic’, ‘Akira’ to release uncut in Pakistan

Both films will hit Pakistani theatres on Friday

KARACHI: While recent action films such as Suicide Squad and Batman v Superman failed to impress audiences, Friday will mark the clash of two more action thrillers in Pakistani theatres.

These include Bollywood’s latest Sonakshi Sinha-starrer Akira and the much-awaited Hollywood film, The Mechanic: Resurrection, featuring Jason Statham.

The Central Board of Film Censors (CBFC) has issued a Universal rating to both films, which are slated to release uncut. The Punjab Board of Film Censors (PBFC) has issued a Universal certificate to The Mechanic as well, although Akira is yet to be reviewed by it.

On the other hand, the Sindh Board of Film Censors (SBFC) has reviewed Akira and issued the movie a Universal rating with some minor cuts.  “There was only minor cutting in a scene that hinted at some obscenity with a police officer, and one dialogue. Apart from that, the film is ready to go,” SBFC secretary Razzaq Khuhawar told The Express Tribune.

Akira, which follows Bollywood’s rising trend of strong female lead characters, is a remake of a 2011 Tamil film, Mouna Guru. It revolves around a college student who takes on four corrupt cops in a bid to prove her innocence.

The Mechanic: Resurrection, on the other hand, is a sequel to 2011’s The Mechanic which itself was a remake of a 1972 film of the same name. The movie unravels Statham’s character, Arthur Bishop, who is forced to return to the life of violence he once left and assassinate some of the most dangerous men in the world.
