Sub-Inspector Iftikhar Khattak of Special Branch was gunned down by unidentified motorcyclists in Waris Town area within the Chamkani police station jurisdiction on Monday. The group claimed responsibility in a statement posted on its official news website.
Islamic State claims roadside blast targeting judge in Quetta: SITE
Khattak, along with his nephew Amjad, were returning from a local mosque after offering evening prayers when three unidentified men on a motorcycle approached them and indiscriminately opened fire at him. He was rushed to the Lady Reading Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Following the incident, the assailants fled the scene and police arrived at the scene. Police registered an FIR and commenced investigation the case.

Khattak was originally from Bahader Baba, Nowshera but was currently residing in Waris Town area of the city.
Earlier this month, IS claimed responsibility for a roadside bomb that injured 13 in Quetta. The explosion, an apparent attack on a judge, injured four police personnel and nine passers-by.
