ISLAMABAD: National Assembly Standing Committee on Science and Technology on Wednesday recommended an increase in the budget of the Ministry of Science and Technology (MoST) to make progress in research and development sector. The NA body met here under the chairmanship of MNA Tariq Bashir Cheema. The meeting noted that the country was spending only 0.29% of its total GDP on research and development that was very little compared to other countries like China, India and South Korea. It observed that the current budget was insufficient to achieve the goals in research and development sector. In order to standardise country’s exports’ quality and bring them in line with international standards, expertise is needed to bring technical and certification services at par.
