Pakistan test fires Hatf VII missile

Pakistan successfully test fires indigenously developed, 600 Kilometer-ranged Cruise Missile Hatf VII (Babur).

Pakistan on Thursday successfully test fired the indigenously developed, 600 Kilometer-ranged Cruise Missile Hatf VII (Babur).

The missile, which is terrain hugging with high maneuverability and pin point accuracy, has stealth capabilities and can carry strategic and conventional warheads.

The test was witnessed by Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee, General Khalid Shamim Wynne along with other senior officers from the armed forces. Officers from strategic organisations, scientists and engineers were also present.

Wynne reiterated that the test will go a long way in consolidating Pakistan's strategic deterrence capability, and further strengthening national security.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani also congratulated the scientists and engineers on the success of the test.

The missile tests are part of a process of validating the system.

I wish you had read my referenced quotes translation in Quran properly before replying to my rejoinder. I totaly agree with you that Islam is religion of peace and harmony. This is the reason it is growing very fast in the world. Please try to understand the context in which these Ayats have been given to us by Allah. Allah is warning us that a non-Muslim cannot be your friend so be careful while dealing and negotiating with them. It is no harm to have diplomatic or business relations with them after all our beloved prophet (SAW) used to do business with the non-Muslim. Non-Muslims were in protestion of Muslim Government in those days and used to pay Jaziaa. I hope you will read Quran with translation and seek proper guidance from Allah inshallah.

I'll read them again but I still believe that Islam is a religion of peace and no matter what you infer from those quotes in Quran, you cannot spread goodwill of Islam through violence and hatred; but by spreading the word of love and compassion. Thats how you make friends with non Muslims, impress them and then make a few of them follow your way of life including religion. I think plain common sense also says that. This is how Islam was spread in the world and not on the point of sword as claimed by Western Historians. Cause if that would have been the case, the whole of South Asia, Middle East and Spain would have had Muslims. Even now Islam is the fastest spreading religion in North America and people who are preaching it there are not the terrorist who justify their violence by religion, but by nice peaceloving role models whose personalities impress non muslims enough to make them take interest in Islam, converting a few in the process. So how is it being spread? With love and friendship. While I appreciate your hardwork in showing me those references, you need to understand the context in which these revelations were descended on to our Holy Prophet (Peace be upon him) from Allah. My friend, thanks for seeking my pardon from Allah. I'll also pray that Allah gives you the maturity and sagacity to become an affable advocate of our great religion, Islam.

But there is a huge difference in the Indians who comment on this board and the Pakistanis who support expenditure in technology that is military related. Don't my fellow Pakistanis realize that everything they do is monitored by the world and that they get closer everyday to being invaded and "set right"? The Indians sound nice, educated, kind, self-critical (self deprecating even), honest, gentle and even loving. I wish us Pakistanis could be that way too. The Indians are only warning us of what they see perhaps happening to us : death, destruction and possibility of eventual re colonization. A poor and or unstable Pakistan would be bad for India just as a poor and unstable India is bad for us. Our fates are tied. We were created because we were supposed to be setting a good example for India not the other way around. We are the ones who are supposed to set the example of dressing simply, plainly, eating simple foods, having simple weddings and putting on ethical moral works of art that depict a human story. Instead Pakistanis not only follow the worst customs of the Indians but we also follow the worst customs of the Afghans (violence, militancy). We could perhaps all endeavor to be nice to each other and grow in friendship and love. We could perhaps stop investment in military tech and reform our own who have chosen a path of violence and harsh-rhetoric.

Why any debate or blog within Pakistan are always compared with India. India has problems and they are fighting but look at the progress they have made. Every world leader is knocking at the their door for business. India is developing in every department such as space, medicine, engineering, industrialization. During my recent visit to India, I have found that Lower Caste Hindus are highly desperated and disappointed. They cannot even migrate to Pakistan. What I have observed that they are converting fast to JAIN relegion / caste. This is a dangerous trend. In other words Lower Caste Hindus will soon change their religion only because of upper caste Hindus high handedness. We Muslim never discriminate such oonch neech. We hope that Hindus will understand and solve this serious problem otherwise, Hindu religion and population is at stake. You must worry for this serious problem instead of looking into others matters and exaggerating it falsely.

Some one told me it was a tube launched test that can be augmented to Subs etc. Related to the discussion above where we are discussing the futility of such weapons systems. Well looking at the another angle, it creates so many job not only in Pakistan but every country. In the Fortune 500 List nearly 77% companies directly or indirectly support the war machinery. None of them are from Pakistan, maybe some from India; so ain't no money wasted there. Its an old saying that fruit bearing tree always bears down. So if the super powers have more fruits why do they have to react to any small threat even in the remotest corner. The Super Power could have forgiven the 9/11 act considering that a 100 times more people die in car crashes.. but no sir they had to go there and wage war lasting over 10 years and costing more than 5 trillion dollars... and creating many by-products, one we are experiencing at the forefront. Even India being a bigger, stronger country should not be worried about a petty missile from a country that was split in two by it.. or caused it to split as well... I think the best thing for India is to be not concerned by it at all.. It has more homegrown issues than to worry about a missile less than 1 million USD max :). There are more pressing issues for indian to look at like to find what caused the people of hyderabad and other states to plant an attack in the heart of the financial capital (mumbai) of India. But being a super power or lets say countries with taller stature... there is a tiny problem what we call in urdu "Un ki akal Gitoon main chali jati hai". There are always differences in a family even in real brothers. India took advantage of it and sending her troops to the then East Pakistan. This infiltration and Sabotage activities with some paid Pakistan enemies paid off. India took full advantage of our differences and what happened is past and history which we cannot forget. I still remember, it was India who did loot and plunder in Bangladesh and took all good Textile and other machinery to India. It was wise decision at that time by Pak Army to surrender based on typical situation at that time to save precious lives of BD people over there. India had tried their best to attack and capture present Pakistan to but it could not succeed it. Basically India did not accept the independence of Pakistan and since the beginning trying her best to dismember it. It is her wishful thinking. India cannot forget that Muslim had ruled over them for thousands of years and she thinks if we (India) breaks or weaken Pakistan, Muslims cannot survive. You are wrong. We also asked the General Naizi to provide us with 90k troops so that they could protect us. And the ever gracious General Niazi readily agreed to ask his 90000 troops to be put in command of General Arora who had but only 3000 men. And that happened on16th Dec 1971. And yes we are still running scared..... Hope that makes you happy.

However, you are living in fools paradise as Pakistan is making Locomotives, Planes, etc etc. We have our own indegineous car. It is true that have unfair disadvantage of having old industries in India, India has a bit edge but dont worry, we will not only catch her but will supercede her. You being an Indian, I cannot invite and show you the Engineering progress especially in defence we had made but advancement we achieved would soon over-taken by us on India. For your information, Atom bomb and missiles are not available off-shelf in the market and no one sells like that. If it would have been sold, Talibans would have been first to acquire them and used on USA. We have a highly sophisticate Lab (not only one but many) where our scientists are busy day and night on R&D work. The other day even US has accepted that Pakistan has neuclear superiority over India and that Pakistan's arsenals are better than India which speaks of our best mids Alhamdollilah. It was Lal Bahadur Shastri ex-Indian Prime Minister who signed Tashkant declaration with our President Ayub Khan but was so scared to return home that his heart failed and his body had to be brought to India. This is to prove that India is scared of Pakistan because of its necular superiority and better Missile technology. Allah forbid that there may a chance for us to use them, but believe me if we ever happen to use them, India will not be available on the Globe. So mind your own business and don't poke your nose in our internal affairs and in our business as we want peace and stability in this region.

Like I said in my comment earlier, if India is making these weapons, then after a particular point (for deterrence), they are useless. What good were these weapons for us on 26/11? Indian government says ISI is involved in any terrorist attack in India. And vice versa the Pakistanis accuse RAW. Now as we have seen some terrorists like Kasab came from Pakistan and then there were some like the ones responsible for the Samjhauta Train Blasts which came from within. India or Indians are not saints but at least we are catching the likes of Kasab and Aseemanands and putting them on trial. May be Pakistan also needs to do the same. You cannot honestly believe that all terrorists operating in Pakistan are Indians...I agree with you when you say I need to examine what is going wrong in Kashmir. I have complete faith in India as well as Indians. We are slow but we progress, so there will come a day when we will tackle Kashmir the way it should be. I personally believe killing a civilian is wrong so it does not matter to me where the person is getting killed - US, Haiti, Angola, Pakistan or India. And you don't know if someone I loved was ever killed or not....

SUPARCO should be channeling all their resources towards creating rockets that can get us to the moon, Mars. Our talents should be focused towards making us a competitive space program in the world. If we expend our talents on military applications we will (1) encourage intervention from outsiders who will attempt to sabotage our scientists (as with Iran) and students abroad (2) encourage sanctions of economic and financial kind which will further impoverish the nation. Peaceful space related ventures will yield us dividends economically (as they do for the US/ NASA). They will also win us the affection and respect of other peace loving nations.

US was waging the war using these people as proxies. I would have criticised India also if they increase the defence expenditure which is more than required. After all As a tax payer, I am paying my hard earned money to the govt. to better the standard of living of common man. Army is for the country, country is not for the army. As a taxpayer pakistani citizen do you think it is necessary for pak to have more than 100 nuclear weapon and so many missiles. Regarding attacking other country, Pakistan was there in Afganistan till 9/11. The al-quiada, Taliban, ISI and Pak Army was rulling Afganistan by proxy and you will appreciate that Pakistan spent huges sums of money to sustain such arrangement in Afganistan. Pak army is simply draining the economy of Pakisatn by showing Ghost of India.

What good are these when the age of conventional war is over (and I will say this even when India develops these things, I am an Indian btw). This is the age of terrorism. I think this headline and the other one which says 32 military people killed in suicide bomb attack shows the futility of these arms. Have a deterrent, by all means for your enemies but don't get into a stupid race just for the heck of it. Ideally India also should not be doing this either but if they are may be they have the resources....you don't or at least whatever I read in Pakistani papers says so. And honestly I feel there is a possibility of a win win situation for India and Pakistan. Forget about India, you have more than enough weapons to counter us and you also say these are superior to the Indian machinery. Focus on terrorism - a) You are already fighting the terrorists, continue this with renewed focus. However this is only tactical. b) Reform your economy and education to ensure that terrorists are harder to recruit. (this is what the terrorists are doing, they attacked Mardan to discourage people from joining the army etc). People whose stomachs are full and who understand the 'real' Islam will never become fodder for the mullahs. Both these need to be done simaltaneously and may be in 10-15 yrs we will see the result. India cannot and will not attack you. Look what happened during Kargil, Pakistan attacked but despite being in an advantageous position, had to retreat because of international pressure. You think if India attacks, people will support us? No way. Get yourself in shape and then fight the real or imaginary enemies. Weapons of mass destruction are like steroids, they make feel you stronger cosmetically but are actually killing you slowly.

I remember the then Indian then Foreign Minister Fernandez harshly threatened Pakistan with strong wordings. The next day Pakistan detonate Atom Bomb. After that successful test, Fernandez vanished and still not found anywhere - may be scared off. So India needs to be disciplined herself especially dealing with Pakistan as she knows that we are neither Russians nor any other nation which cannot reply and fight from tooth to its nail. We ask to live with peace but it should not be construed as our weakness.
