meeting: People have rejected politics of protest, says Shahbaz

LAHORE: Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has said that Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government’s performance over the past three years has established its commitment to public service, honesty, hard work and transparency.

Talking to members of the National and Provincial Assemblies, belonging to various districts, who met him here on Friday, he said that besides maintaining transparency in public welfare projects, high standards had been ensured.

“The government has made history by saving billions of rupees allocated for development projects,” he said. He added, “The speed at which developmental projects are being completed has also been appreciated at international level.”

The CM told the legislators that a number of uplift projects would be completed during the next two years, which, he hoped, would benefit the masses directly.

Sharif said that there was no room for politics of protests or for chaos. He said it was lamentable that some people were trying to create obstacles in the way of development and prosperity.

He said the masses had already rejected the politics of protest in the past. “They will not allow the agenda of vested interests to succeed in future as well,” he added. The CM alleged that those calling for protests wanted to hinder the process of development for the achievement of their selfish ends. He said the PML-N government was making all-out efforts for making Pakistan a developed, peaceful and prosperous country. “Pakistan is safe, more peaceful and economically stable than before,” he boasted.

He said the government had honoured the mandate given to it by the people. “People cannot be served through mere slogans alone, but practical efforts are needed for the purpose,” he observed.

Vowing that the government would set new records of public service during the next two years, Shahbaz called upon the elected representatives to maintain a close contact with the people and resolve their problems on a priority basis.

Those who met the CM included Members of National Assembly Syed Ahmed Khan Manhais and Abdur Rahman Kanju and Member of Provincial Assembly Rana Munnawar Ghaus. Manshaullah Butt, the MPA, was also present on the occasion.
