LAHORE: Additional Chief Secretary Shamail Ahmad Khawaja on Wednesday stressed the need for an indigenous cadre of the Anti-Corruption Establishment. He said recruitments should be done for the purpose. He said candidates with an academic background in corporate law must be given preference. “We need investigation officers with expertise to tackle financial crimes,” he said.

He was speaking at a briefing session held to discuss proposals regarding restructuring of the ACE Punjab.

The ACS said that after Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif’s approval fresh recruitments would be done in the ACE Punjab through the Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC). He said this would enhance the public’s confidence in government’s performance.

Earlier, ACE Director General Brig (r) Muzaffar Ali Ranjha presented various proposals to fulfill vacancies in the ACE headquarters and divisional offices in accordance with the new organogram.

The meeting was informed that construction of purpose built offices for the ACE was underway across the province. The construction work had already started in Faisalabad, Sargodha and Multan. A planning commission document (PC-I) had been prepared for the Sahiwal office and plots identified for the Dera Ghazi Khan and Gujranwala offices.

The meeting also reviewed proposals about freezing and confiscation of property of government servants accused of corruption in accordance with the NAB Ordinance 1999 and about penalties for those who fail to comply with ACE directions.

The meeting was told that 10 special courts were operating in the province to hear anti-corruption cases.

Services Secretary Farhan Aziz Khawaja, Local Government Secretary Muhammad Aslam Kamboh and Services and General Administration Additional Secretary (Admin) Sahibzadi Wasimah Umer were also present on the occasion.
