Zuberi has been painting since 1970 and over the years she has produced a diverse series of work. x
Her current exhibition features two different genres of paintings, one featuring portraits of women and the other abstracts.
Zuberi is able to bring the emotions in her paintings alive through the choice of textures she uses on canvas.
She uses the white colour generously in some of her paintings giving a sombre mood to them.
In others she uses bright and vibrant colours, making them cheerful.
The women portrayed in her paintings are not vulgar nor do they reveal any parts of the body, but their figures are neither static nor bland.
The abstract work presented in the exhibition has a lot of depth without resorting to elements of surrealism, mythic imagery or indeterminate shapes.
Dr Arjumand Faisel, the curator of the gallery said, “This is a landmark return of Mobina Zuberi.
These paintings are far more powerful than any of her previous works that I have seen.”
The exhibition will continue until February 20, daily from 11am to 5pm, including Sundays, at Gallery 6, House 624, street 44, G-9/1, Islamabad.
