Banned outfit: SIU apprehends four militants

KARACHI:
Special Investigation Unit (SIU) of the Karachi police claimed to have apprehended on Tuesday four militants belonging to a banned militant outfit during a raid conducted by SIU in collaboration with the Citizens Police Liaisons Committee and an intelligence agency near Disco Bakery in Gulshan-e-Iqbal.
The suspects were identified as Syed Kashif Ali, Alam Ali Shah, Azhar Hussain alias Zeeshan alias Babar and Abdul Adeel alias Shahrukh.
"The [arrested] men belonged to Lashkar-e-Jhangvi al-Alami (LeJ)," claimed SIU chief SP Farooq Awan, adding that the men were also involved in kidnapping for ransom, house robberies, extortion and murder, misusing police uniforms and official vehicles. The suspects were planning to attack or kidnap a high-profile individual in Karachi, he said.
The police also claim to have recovered two light machine guns and a Kalashnikov from their possession.
