Kidnapped or missing: Over 80 cases reported in four districts this year

Ten kidnapped or missing children in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal districts yet to be recovered

RAWALPINDI: At least 89 cases of children going missing or being kidnapped have been reported in Rawalpindi, Jhelum, Attock and Chakwal districts this year.

Speaking at a video-conference with Punjab Police Inspector-General Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera, Rawalpindi Regional Police Officer Fakhar Sultan Raja shared the child abduction cases reported in the four districts in the last three years and the recoveries made by the police. According to the statistics so far this year, in Rawalpindi, 66 children were kidnapped or went missing. Of them, police recovered 55, two returned on their own, while nine children are yet to be recovered.

Two kidnapped children find their way home

In Jhelum District, 18 children were abducted, of them, 11 returned to their home on their own, police recovered six, while one child is yet to be recovered. In Attock District, three children were abducted, police recovered one while the two returned to their homes.

In Chakwal District, two children were abducted and the police recovered both the children. According to the statistics, in 2015, 148 children were kidnapped or went missing from Rawalpindi District. Of them, the police recovered 132 children, two returned on their own, while 14 children are yet to be recovered.

Similarly, in Jehlum, 29 children went missing or were kidnapped. Of them, 21 returned their homes and eight were recovered by police. In Attock, one child was abducted and the police recovered the child. In Chakwal, four children went missing in 2015 and the police recovered all the four.

In 2015, a total of 182 children went missing from the four districts, 145 were recovered by the police, 23 returned on their own, while 14 children were yet to be recovered. In 2014, a total of 146 children were kidnapped from Rawalpindi District and of them, 143 were recovered.

As many as three children including a child of a judge are yet to be recovered.

The judge’s child went missing from outside his house on October 16, 2014, in the Saddar Bairuni police limits. In 2014, 29 children went missing in Jhelum, and of them, 15 children returned on their own, while 14 missing children were recovered by the police.

In Attock District, three children went missing, and of them, the police recovered one child, while the two returned on their own. In Chakwal, four children were abducted and the police recovered all four children.

In 2014, the total number of children abducted in the four districts was 182. Of them the police recovered 162, 17 returned to their homes, while three are yet to be recovered.
