
The personnel raided a house in Pabbi, Nowshera on Sunday evening and arrested Imtiaz and his wife Farhat for handing over their daughter to Wajeeha Yasmeen under a Rs94,000 deal. Wajeeha was arrested on Friday along with four other female doctors and nurses working in various government hospitals who had kidnapped and sold nine infants.

“A few days ago we busted a gang of kidnappers engaged in kidnapping newborn babies from maternity homes and hospitals and then selling them,” Cantt SP Kashif Zulfiqar said. “In one of the incidents, parents of the newborn had sold their child for Rs94,000,” the SP said, adding that the couple had five girls so their addict father decided to sell the newborn girl and make money. In the raid conducted on Friday, police officials managed to recover one newborn from the gang.

According to officials, the gang would take away infants and handover dead babies to parents. The kidnapped newborns were then sold for various prices ranging from Rs70,000 to Rs300,000. In January last year, a baby boy was allegedly kidnapped from Islamabad's Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) before the parents had even had a chance to properly look at the infant.
