The clash broke out in the early hours of Monday in Islamabad's F10-3 area. According an initial postmortem report, the victim received four bullets; two in the face, one in the neck and one in the back.
Police said the exchange of fire was rooted in a personal dispute.
In May, Islamabad police registered a case against former chairman Senate Nayyer Hussain Bokhari for allegedly assaulting a police official on duty.

Reports suggested Bokhari, who is a Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) leader and a practicing lawyer, allegedly slapped a policeman at city district court when the official tried to conduct a body search.
Bokhari was asked to stop for a body search as he arrived at the court, following which the former chairman Senate slapped and also threatened a constable.
