National Accountability Bureau (NAB) is committed to fulfilling the citizens’ aspiration of eradicating corruption from the country, said the organisation’s Chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry.

Chaudhry quoted Muhammad Ali Jinnah by saying that “One of the biggest curses is bribery and corruption. That really is a poison. We must put it down with an iron hand”, said a press release on Sunday.

“NAB had chalked out a very comprehensive operational methodology for proceeding of cases complaint verification, inquiry and investigation,” he further added.

Chaudhry said that the concept of a “Combined Investigation Team” had been introduced, which was a situation where two investigation officers and a legal consultant work as a team to create a robust and impartial inquiry.

He added that the organisation had recovered almost Rs288 billion since its inception with a total of over three million complaints, which were all disposed of according to law.

The chairman also stated that the performance of NAB was unprecedented when compared to any other investigation agency globally.

An effective accountability mechanism is quintessential for economic growth, investment and stability of social order, he added.

Moreover, special focus is being given to awareness and prevention activities besides enforcement to educate the people at large about ill effects of corruption.
