LANDI KOTAL: Security personnel and officials of the political administration offered flowers and sweet to their counterparts from the Afghan side of the border on Sunday. This happened despite tensions between Pakistan and Afghanistan over Torkham border.

“We want harmony and peace on the border as tension will result in devastating results,” Ghuncha Gul, a tehsildar on the Torkham border, said while speaking to The Express Tribune after handing over flowers and sweets to Afghan Security Incharge Qaseem Shinwari.

On the occasion, Shinwari said, “We are like brothers and mutual respect is the only way we can live in peace.”

Meanwhile, a flag hosting ceremony was held on the border to mark Independence Day. The security personnel and political administration officials also took part in the event.

In addition, Afghan authorities also shared their greetings with the Pakistani officials on the day.

Special rallies were also held from Torkham border to assistant political agent’s office in Jamrud. People from different walks of life participated in the rallies.
