He requested the court to set aside the ECP’s decision

LAHORE: The Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) has challenged in Lahore High Court (LHC) the election for reserved seats in local government bodies without inviting new nomination papers.

Advocate Mubeenuddin Qazi, the PML-Q counsel, submitted that the government had withdrawn the amendments to the local government law and that cases against the amendments had been disposed of.

Following the court decision, he said, elections were to be held in line with the law prevalent in August 2015.

But, he said, the ECP was using the nominations that had been accepted on the basis of the previous notification. He said potential candidates were being deprived of their rights to participate in the elections. He requested the court to set aside the ECP’s decision.
