Armed attack case: MQM worker remanded to prison

Sarwar Qureshi is accused of carrying out an attack with accomplices on Muhabbat-e-Sindh rally

KARACHI: The anti-terrorism courts’ administrative judge remanded on Thursday a Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker to prison in a four-year-old case pertaining to an armed attack on a rally of Sindhi nationalist parties.

The police presented Sarwar Qureshi on the expiry of his physical remand before the judge and submitted that his custody was no more required for questioning in the case.

The judge sent the suspect to jail on judicial remand and sought the supplementary charge sheet from the investigation officer on the next hearing after two weeks.



Qureshi, arrested recently, has been accused of carrying out the attack in collusion with his accomplices on Muhabbat-e-Sindh rally near the courts. At least six people, including a woman, were killed while nine others were wounded in the incident.

He is the second suspect after Amir Ali, who was taken into custody during the March 11 raid at the MQM headquarters last year, to be held in the case. A number of other workers and the then Karachi chief of the party, Hammad Siddiqui, are wanted in the case.
