PESHAWAR: The issue of eleven hardcore terrorists, including an Afghan citizen, who escaped from Mardan Police Lines two months ago, has been brushed under the carpet by the provincial government and law-enforcement agencies. The suspects have yet to be taken back into custody.

The names of those who reportedly escaped were obtained by The Express Tribune from official sources. They include Muhammad Gul alias Ahmad. He is a resident of Afghanistan. Others on the list are Gul Muhammad Umer Bajwri and Nihar Ali.

Akhtar Iqbal, Majid Ali, Muhammad Ali, alias Yasin, Abdullah alias Hamza, Muhammad Israil alias Muhammada, Akhter alias Khan Ghi, Arshad alias Pir Saib, and Muhammad Suleman alias Ahmad are also on the list.

Sources said a constable of the Mardan police was involved in the episode, but the enquiry against him has been shelved. Intelligence agencies issued a warrant for the escaped militants and termed them a danger to peace and stability in the region.
