August 14 marks the day we claimed ourselves free but if we look deep into the life of a Pakistani, we will realise that there is little to celebrate on our Independence Day.
On the 70th Independence Day, we are plagued, from threats to our basic human rights to foreign attacks.
Here are seven documentaries that will give you an insight into the challenges faced by Pakistanis.
1. Drone
Directed by Tonje Hessen Schei, Drone is a documentary based on the covert CIA war. By revealing critical information about the drone war and highlighting how innocent Pakistanis are killed by American drones every day, this film is bound to give you goosebumps.
2. Every last Child
Tom Roberts' Every Last Child centers on the miserable situation of Pakistani families and healthcare workers as they face violence in an attempt to protect their children from polio. Watching the helplessness of parents to save their child's life will give you chills.
3. Saving Face
Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy's Saving Face revolves around the struggle of an acid attack victim to heal. It covers the ugly reality of our society where a woman cannot live freely and if she tries to, she's attacked.
4.Made In Pakistan
Directed by Nasir Khan, Made in Pakistan orbits around four Pakistanis who defy stereotypes by living by their will. It demonstrates the dangers one faces in pursuit of creating the lives of their choice.
5. A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness
Directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy, A Girl in the River: The Price of Forgiveness is a story of a Pakistani woman who is sentenced to death for falling in love. Subsequently, she struggles to survive the harsh judicial system.
6. Among the Believers
Written by Mohammad Naqvi, Among the Believers is a documentary featuring the spread of the radical Islamic school young students in Pakistan after being trained to devote their lives to Jihad. Among the Believers will leave you traumatised.
7. Pakistan's Hidden Shame
Pakistan's Hidden Shame throws light on the child abuse widespread in the Northern areas of Pakistan. Directed by Mohammad Naqvi, this documentary goes deep into the core issue.
