The arrests were made by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) during an intelligence-based operation in the Regi area of the provincial capital.
According to a CTD official, the alleged terrorists, identified as Atiqullah and Abdul Saboor, are believed to be operatives of an Afghan intelligence agency and were tasked with carrying out sabotage activities across the city.
“Apart from arms and ammunitions, the CTD also seized from their possession an improvised explosive device (IED), weighing around three kilogrammes. This IED was planted inside a computer,” he said.
He said the CTD also found from their hideout video recordings of thickly populated and sensitive areas of the city. “The men were planning to attack a seminary of a particular sect in Tehkal,” he said, adding that both the suspects had been shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.
