KARACHI: Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah has directed the transport department to establish a Karachi Mass Transit Cell (KMTC) in the department till the approval of the relevant law and start recruitment process for the required positions.

"You need efficient, experienced and dedicated professionals to start a mass transit system in the city," he said, explaining that otherwise serious problems of integration of different Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) systems would develop.

The CM said this while presiding over a meeting of the transport department at CM House on Wednesday. He expressed surprise that the Karachi Mass Transit Authority (KMTA) draft bill had not been cleared by the provincial assembly's standing committee and directed them to present the bill in the next session.

Transport minister Syed Nasir Shah said that to develop an efficient transport system, the establishment of the KMTA is inevitable. The draft bill was presented in the assembly in September 2014, which referred it to the standing committee for clearance.

"Whatever the legal formalities are, you must fulfill them and where my approval is required it will be given on a top priority basis," the CM said.

The Karachi is an integral part of Sindh and it shall remain so, regardless of your shenanigans. I have personally observed that you always pass racist and fascist remarks and you reek of insolence from every other comment. Please forget the dream of jinnahpur, enough is enough.
