Express Education Expo draws students, academicians

Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana inaugurates expo

LAHORE: A large number of students, teachers as well as the general public visited the Express Education and Careers Expo that kicked off in Lahore on Tuesday. The expo showcases stalls from universities, colleges and institutions providing various educational services, as well as competitions and entertainment activities.

Governor Malik Rafique Rajwana inaugurated the expo and visited several stalls. Talking to reporters, Rajwana said that all government events had been postponed due to the Quetta tragedy. However, he said, that he had come especially to attend the expo as education was the only way forward for the nation. He appreciated the efforts of the Express Media Group and said that such events were the need of the hour.

More than 50 universities, including national and international institutions, are participating in the expo, where more than 60 stall have been put up. The expo started at 9am and attracted students looking to get admission in local and foreign universities.

The Oxford University Press, the Punjab Group of Colleges, the University of Lahore, the Information Technology University, the Bahauddin Zakariya University Lahore, the University of Management and Technology, the FAST National University, the Forman Christian College University, the Government College University, the University of Veterinary and Animal Sciences, the University of Education, the Kinnaird College, the University of Sheffield, Malaysia and Skyline University College stalls were visited by most participants.

A large number of students visited various stalls to get information and to review their options about programmes being offered at various institutions. They also got the opportunity to interact with teachers and staff of the varsities.

Talking to The Express Tribune, Muhammad Asad, a student, said that he had come to the expo looking to secure admission in a foreign university. “I want to apply for admission in an international institution. I met many consultants at the expo. The information I got here has helped clarify a lot of things,” he said.

Apart from the stalls, various activities have been arranged for visitors coming to the expo. The activities included performing arts, a battle of bands, a drama competition, a singing competition, a group dance competition, declamation contests, a fashion show, a business competition, an advertisement campaign competition, an innovative ideas competition, a visual arts photography contest and painting and documentary competitions.

In the painting competition sponsored by Hapilac Paints, 60 participants will compete in 30 categories. Nadia Khan, one of the organisers, told The Express Tribune that the competitions would continue for two days. She said that three winners would be given shields at the end of the competition. The expo will conclude on Wednesday (today).
