Rape survivor commits suicide in Chitral

CHITRAL: A student, who was raped at a government school in Laspur, Chitral reportedly committed suicide in Saturday. The body of the deceased was shifted to Booni for an autopsy.

In December 2015, the girl was returning home from school when Deedar, a Class-IV employee at the school, raped her. The girl registered an FIR against the employee and the case is pending in court.

However, on Friday, the girl came to school and consumed poison on campus.

An insider privy to the development told The Express Tribune she was in critical condition.

“However, nobody took her to the hospital,” he said. “The girl died at the school.” He added her body was shifted to the hospital for an autopsy.

It is believed that the girl took the drastic step as she was disenchanted by the judicial system. Last week, a schoolteacher, who brutally beat students at a state-run elementary school in Chitral, was suspended after a cell phone video which caught him in the act went viral. The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education (E&SE) also formed a two-member committee to conduct an inquiry into the use of corporal punishment.
