Promotion: WAPDA chief’s plea dismissed

LAHORE: The Supreme Court (SC) dismissed on Friday a petition by the Water and Development Authority (WAPDA) chairman against the promotion of two of its officers as per Federal Services Tribunal’s (FST) directive. The petitioner submitted that the tribunal’s directive to promote Muhammad Aleem, a BS-14 official, and Naveed Qureshi, a BS-17 officer, was contrary to facts. Counsel for the petitioner said the tribunal had issued the directive after departments where the two officers had served had been dissolved. He said there was no justification for their promotion. Counsel for the two officers submitted that dissolution of the departments did not cease their right to promotion. They said denying promotion to an entitled officer was a violation of his rights. The two-judge bench, headed by Justice Mian Saqib Nisar, dismissed the petition.
