PESHAWAR: Motorcycle mechanics have been asked not to remove silencers on vehicles before Independence Day.

This was stated in a notification issued by the traffic police department on Friday. This has been done to overcome noise pollution on August 14 and prevent disturbance caused by motorbikes.

“Those [workshop managers] who are found removing silencers will be fined and an FIR would be registered against them.” While talking to The Express Tribune, Traffic Police Deputy Superintendent Rahim Hussain said,

“The notification has been issued to avoid disturbance on the road on Independence Day.”

He added the media should support the traffic police in an awareness campaign against the practice.
