RAWALPINDI: The enforcement staff of the Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Thursday stopped the Huawei Company, hired by the army, to lay down optic fibre cables on Range Road as the contractor had not received clearance from the board.

Signals department of the Pakistan Army had contracted the task of laying down the cable, from Qasim Market near Peshawar Road to Bhatta Chowk on Misrial Road.

The company’s manpower had started excavation of the road, when the RCB staff prevented the labourers from digging up the road.

Moreover, RCB staff confiscated their tools and brought them to the cantonment board’s office.

Military authorities contacted RCB officials regarding the reason for not allowing the work to go forward.

As a result, RCB informed the military personnel to gain permission for excavation of the road from their station headquarters.

The RCB Spokesperson, Qaisar Mahmood, said that the contractor company needed to have permission from the RCB authorities for digging up the road.

The RCB executive officer briefed the military authorities about the board rules, after which they had submitted an application with the stations headquarters for permission, he added.
