The prosecution arm of the country’s top anti-graft body has been revamped by inducting experienced and well educated legal consultants and special prosecutors, said a statement here on Wednesday.

The National Accountability Bureau’s Prosecution Division chief informed a briefing session that due to constant deliberations and proper monitoring, the performance of the division has been improved.

NAB chairman Qamar Zaman Chaudhry chaired the briefing session to review the performance of the division for April 1 to June 30, 2016.

The Prosecutor General Accountability said that the division provides the legal opinion and assistance to the operations division and all regional bureaus in conducting inquiries and investigations.

It also pleads cases in accountability courts, high courts and the Supreme Court.

He presented performance analysis of the division and said that the statistics show an enhanced performance in the second quarter of 2016.

He further said that in the trial courts, conviction ratio rose to 77.7 percent with 35 convictions and 10 acquittals during the first half of 2016 as compared to 36.8 percent of the same period last year with 21  convictions and 36 acquittals. The percentage is much higher than the last 6 years average 43.7 percent.
