MINGORA: The mother of a woman who accused her father-in-law of raping her has appealed to the chief minister, chief justice and prime minister to provide her justice.

The 20-year-old rape survivor is a resident of Bara Durushkhela, Matta tehsil in Swat. She and her mother have asked the relevant authorities to look into the matter after the police failed to take action against the girl’s in-laws.

“In the absence of her husband who works in Saudi Arabia, my daughter’s father-in-law showed ruthless behavior by beating her up when she refused his sexual advances,” the mother said. According to her, her daughter once rushed over to her house and was in excruciating pain. The mother immediately took her to Asharay police station.

“I wanted to register an FIR against my daughter’s in-laws,” she said. “I was asked to provide the police Rs2,000 just so they would go to my daughter’s house. The police merely talked to the accused and left. They refused to file an FIR.”

She added the abuse continued as soon as the policemen left the premises and she found her daughter critically wounded.

The mother found herself at the police station once again, hoping for justice, but was once again sent away.

When contacted, Swat district health officer Dr Saeed Ali Khan told The Express Tribune, “We can reinvestigate the matter if the victim’s family applies for it.”

He added that legal action could be taken against the survivor’s in-laws if the victim’s family asks for a medical inspection under autonomous medical board.

Khwendo Jirga Chairperson Tabassum Adnan told The Express Tribune   “We identified the victim of domestic violence and highlighted the case through media and now it has become responsibility of the government to ensure justice.”
