ISLAMABAD: In the two years since the National Action Plan (NAP) was enacted, 411 convicts have been executed while 1,808 alleged terrorists have been killed in operations across the country.

These figures were revealed by Ahsan Ghani, the national coordinator for the National Counter Terrorism Authority (Nacta), while presenting a detailed progress report on NAP on Monday.

Nacta figures show that contrary to popular belief, Punjab is the focus of operations. Nearly half of 4,230 intelligence based operations (IBOs), 2,042 IBOs, were conducted in Punjab. Additionally, 122,772 combing operations were carried out.  Of the 1,808 terrorists killed, 951 were killed in Fata, 455 in Sindh, 135 in Punjab, 197 in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P), 68 in Balochistan and two in Gilgit-Baltistan.

About 5,611 alleged terrorists and members of banned outfits were among 142,335 suspects arrested. No terrorist was either killed or arrested from Islamabad.

Ghani said 88,000 madrassas and 62,678 mosques around the country have been geo-tagged. The process has been completed in Punjab and Islamabad. Additionally, the PTA has blocked 937 web pages and 10 websites with extremist material, and blocked 98.3 million SIMs.
