FAISALABAD: A judicial magistrate on Monday sent the chairperson of Move On Pakistan to the district jail on a 14-days judicial remand.

Move On Pakistan chairperson Mian Muhammad Kamran was arrested last week by a special police team in Islamabad on July 20 and brought to Faisalabad. He had been kept at the Kotwali police station on physical remand for five days. He was interrogated in that time.

SHO Malik Muhammad Shahid and Investigating Officer Sub-Inspector Muhammad Ishaq produced Kamran in the court of Civil Judge Ali Raza on Monday. Counsel for prosecution told the court that they had recovered the printing machine which had been used to print the objectionable banners and flexes.

Controversial banners: Criminal case registered against ‘Move on Pakistan’

The counsel told the court that the investigation was complete and no further physical remand of the accused was not needed.

Earlier, Kotwali police had registered a case against Kamran on a complaint filed by Amer Shahzad, a resident of Chiniot Bazaar. The FIR was registered under Sections 120(b), 124(a), 505(ii) and 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (criminal conspiracy, sedition, intending to instigate or cause fear or alarm among public, a criminal act done by several people).

The complainant had said that Kamran had displayed the controversial posters carrying pictures of Chief of Army General Raheel Shareef in 13 cities including Faisalabad.

Kamran had earlier obtained protective bail from the Islamabad High Court following the registration of an FIR at the Islamabad Secretariat police station on July 14. Similar FIRs were registered across the country including Lahore.  According to Kamran’s relatives, he had been picked up from Islamabad but the FIR said that Kotwali police (from Chiniot Bazaar, Faisalabad) had arrested him.

The reason for this is not for the benefit of the country but for personal benefit as some vested interests gain during military rule, and these people owe their existence to the tugbof war between civil and military rule.
