KARACHI: The legislation work on access to information on federal level is in its final stages and the draft will be tabled in the assembly after approval by the cabinet, said the Federal Secretary Information Syed Imran Gardezi.

Speaking at a farewell reception held in his honour by the Council of Pakistan Newspapers Editors (CPNE), Gardezi highlighted the services and sacrifices of the newspapers, journalists and editors for democracy and the freedom of the press during the times of dictatorships.

Gardezi’s wife and the ambassador-designate for Holland Iffat Imran Gardezi was also present on the occasion.

He called for highlighting the social and environmental issues particularly high rate of population growth and weather change.

Earlier CPNE Secretary-General Aijazul Haque presented the welcome address. The vice-president Amir Mehmud and Finance Secretary Ghulam Nabi Chandio also addressed.

The gathering was attended by a large number of editors and journalists. CPNE presented memorial shield to Gardezi and ajrak to his wife.
