Militancy: FC convoy escapes blast near Quetta

A convoy of Frontier Corps escaped a remote controlled blast in Mian Ghundi, on the outskirts of Quetta city.

QUETTA: A convoy of Frontier Corps escaped a remote controlled blast in Mian Ghundi, on the outskirts of Quetta city, on Saturday, a senior police officer said.

The outlawed Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) claimed responsibility for the attack. Four vehicles carrying rations for Frontier Corps personnel were heading towards Quetta city when an explosive device planted along the road near a police check post in Mian Ghundi exploded. The device was detonated by remote control. The vehicles managed to pass through unscathed as the explosion occurred seconds after the convoy crossed the check post, a senior police officer said.

The blast caused no loss of life and all personnel remained unhurt. However it left a three-foot large crater in the road. The police and Frontier Corps cordoned the area. A case has been registered in Shalkot Police Station against unknown persons. Meanwhile, the spokesperson of BLA, Mirak Baloch calling from an undisclosed location, claimed responsibility and vowed that his organisation will continue carrying out such attacks.

Ameer Hamza | 13 years ago | Reply BLA should be completely eliminated. I don't know what is stopping our politicians and leaders from destroying this and other terrorist groups within Balochistan. I am sure nawabs are part of these attacks and FC and Pakistan army must take concrete steps to eliminate them even if our politicians continue to sleep over the matter.
