Sindh allows conjugal visits for prisoners

Express May 07, 2010

KARACHI: Sindh Government has ordered jails across the province to allow conjugal visits to prisoners once every three months.

Prisoners' wives will be allowed to visit their husbands in jail for one night, provided they bring a valid nikah document and a national identity card.

The order came after a meeting of the Sindh High Court and Supreme Court Jails Reform Committee.

The home minister's notification clarifies that prisoners who have been serving for more than five years in jail are eligible for this.

Sources have confirmed that prisoners will be provided with facilities to accommodate the new directives.

Syed A. Mateen | 14 years ago | Reply The space in jails is not enough to keep the prisoners, how prisoners can accommodate his wife once in three months time. The government has not elaborated that how prisoners will maintain privacy? Is a prisoner will get a single room when his wife will visit him in the jail?
