Customs Act, 1969: ANP, transporters protest in Timergara

TIMERGARA:

Awami National Party members and transporters protested against the imposition of Customs Act, 1969 in front of Timergara Press Club on Thursday.

The protesters blocked GT Road that resulted in traffic jams, creating hardship for commuters. They shouted slogans against the federal and provincial governments and threatened to widen demonstration if the order of imposition of the customs act was not withdrawn.

The protesters said Malakand Division was a tax-free zone and the government violated the Constitution by imposing Customs Act, 1969. They added people of Malakand Division had rendered huge sacrifices in wars against militancy and large amounts of taxes should not be levied on them.

Meanwhile, ANP local leaders also threatened to resign from government offices if the decision to impose the act was not withdrawn.
