ABBOTTABAD: A new CT scan machine (computed tomography) will be put in operation at the Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH) from Thursday. It will offer state of the art diagnostic facilities to patients.

ATH is the only tertiary care hospital in Hazara Division, official sources told The Express Tribune. The health care facility, before the installation of the new CT scan machine, had a single old-fashioned device on a public-private partnership basis. However, complaints that the old machine was out of order had become commonplace.

According to secretary of the hospital’s board of governors and former hospital director of ATH, Major (retd) Dr Siddique Rehman, the new CT scan machine is of 80 slides. It is the second such machine installed in the whole country after Quetta. He said this new machine would help diagnose diseases for better treatment.

He said over 30 CT scan tests would be carried out daily with the help of the new machine. He added ATH installed four new dialysis machines, increasing the number to 15.

Dr Rehman added 25 to 30 dialyses were carried at the Urology department on a daily basis and the addition of four new machines would improve services.

According to Dr.Rehman, another major problem that ATH had been facing for a long time was potable water for patients and their attendants. To resolve this issue, the hospital administration installed a water filtration plant on the premises.

ATH is the only 1,000-bedded tertiary care hospital in Hazara division with a daily OPD influx of about 2,000 to 2,500 patients.
