RAWALPINDI:

Pirwadhai police on Saturday arrested over 30 people for protesting against the department for not arresting three men who had allegedly tortured a woman at her house in Quaidabad on July 13.

The police also registered a case in the incident after over 100 people blocked a busy road in Pirwadhai near Octroi No 4.

The protesters were demanding the arrest of three men for allegedly torturing a woman.

During the demonstration, the protesters including women and children had chanted slogans against the police for not registering a case under the relevant sections of the law covering the seriousness of the crime.

They accused the police of favouring the accused.

Twenty six years old Samina on July 13 lodged a complaint with Pirwadhai police saying that her landlords, Shoaib, Shahzaib and three women tortured her as they wanted her to vacate the house.

The police summoned both parties as the landlords had also lodged a complaint.

The police locked both parties up in the police station. Later, both sides obtained bails from the court.

Later, both the parties clashed again after the woman was once again asked to vacate the house.

The woman lodged another complaint alleging that the landlords tortured her.

The protest on Friday ended after two hours as the police high ups assured the protesters that the landlords would be arrested.

The police had said that the accused had already obtained bail from the court and the law enforcers could not arrest them.

Priwadhai Police SHO Chaudhry Riaz was not available to comments.
