MANSEHRA:

A man shot and injured his sister in a village of Shah Khel Garhi, Mansehra on Saturday.

The incident was orchestrated in the name of honour.

The injured was shifted to Ayub Teaching Hospital (ATH), Abbottabad and is in critical condition.

Babu Riasat, a resident of Peeran village, told The Express Tribune he and Safina Bibi had an affair.

They had solemnised a court marriage two years ago.

“I did not belong to her clan and she married me without her family’s consent,” he said. “Her family was not happy and often threatened to
kill her.”

According to Riasat, when Safina Bibi went to fetch water from a pond, her brother Imtiaz Shah and first cousin Wajid Shah opened fire on her with 30-bore pistols on Friday afternoon.

They both fled the site. Safina Bibi was initially moved to King Abdullah Teaching Hospital Mansehra. However, the doctors referred her to ATH as she was in critical condition. The complainant said the assailants killed his wife to preserve their family’s honour.
