ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has directed law enforcement agencies in Sindh to work in close liaison for the rescue of Barrister Ovais Ali Shah and keep judicial authorities updated on the case. He issued these directives at a special meeting of the federal cabinet in Lahore on Friday.

Sources in the PM Secretariat told The Express Tribune that the premier took notice of the meeting of all SHC judges a day earlier. The judges had urged the president and PM to ensure the safe recovery of Barrister Owais.

Premier Nawaz, who was in London recuperating from an open-heart surgery then, had instructed LEAs and intelligence agencies to recover the lawyer but no breakthroughs have been made.

A senior officer in the PM Secretariat said the premier once again issued instructions to the Sindh police chief to utilise “all possible options” to safely recover Ovais.

He also directed the police authorities to work in close liaison with Rangers Sindh and intelligence agencies and regularly update the registrars of the SHC and Supreme Court on the progress made in the case.

“The Sindh IGP has been made the focal person in this case. He has been tasked to take operational measures for recovery of the lawyer, coordinate with security agencies and update the judicial authorities,” the source said.
