RAWALPINDI: Traders and other residents staged a protest on Chakri Road against Saddar Bairuni police for their alleged inaction in arresting the killers of Nisar, a local bakery owner, on Thursday.

The protesters chanted slogans against security officials for their inability in catching the culprits. They also burnt tyres and blocked traffic on Chakri Road for some time.

Two unidentified men shot and injured Nisar outside his bakery on July 11. Rescue 1122 officials rushed the injured to the Benazir Bhutto Hospital for medical treatment. However, the victim was proclaimed dead on arrival at the hospital.

The protesters asked Federal Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to take notice of the brutal killing and instruct relevant security officials to find the culprits.

The heirs of the deceased had nominated two men, Raja Waheed and his driver Kamran in the FIR as the probable killers.

Nisar’s family members said that the police was not interested in finding those involved and had allowed them to roam freely with impunity.

Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) member Zafar Iqbal and Saddar Bairuni SHO Malik Muhammad Yar negotiated with the protesters and ensured them that the killers would be arrested soon.
